Laura Linney is an American actress who is popular for her portrayal of powerful but fragile characters. Born to a famous playwright's father, and raised by a single mother who made a living in the field of nursing, she became interested in theatre while having summers spent with her father and eventually pursuing a degree in acting initially as a student at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. She began her Broadway career shortly after graduating after which she made her debut on television the following year. Over the past few years she has appeared in a variety of film, TV as well as stage productions. She has won many awards throughout her career. These include the four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. Despite her numerous nominations, she has a passion for theatre and has appeared on stage and screen.
